Lynn Masters
2007 Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance Poster Artist

Lynn Masters is an accomplished, internationally recognized automotive artist Lynn is an avid exotic car and race fan, as well as a high-performance racing school graduate.  She has realized that the only subjects that sustain her painting interests were of the same nature.  Her subjects?  Those machines that make our hearts race, the best-of-the-best in vehicles of movement and passion - exotics, high-performance, and racing.

Comments often heard around Lynn’s work include -- “bold, powerful paintings with energy and attitude”, which has become her niche in the automotive art world.  Her ability to capture the shear passion and energy of her chosen subject’s essence has certainly become her trademark, not withstanding the shear size of her works which are usually measured in feet – not inches!

In her very first juried show, the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Invitational Art Show, she received the “Award of Excellence”.  Lynn has been featured on the nationally televised show – “Dream Car Garage”, and was honored to participate in Michigan’s prestigious “Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance” in 2006, where she was the only woman selected out of 14 artists chosen internationally.

As a result of Lynn’s talent and success, she was selected to produce the inaugural poster art for the Las Vegas Concourse d’Elegance in 2006, and has since been selected again to produce the same event’s “World Premier” poster art for 2007.  Owners of Lynn’s works stretch worldwide, with the most recent shipment of 3 original paintings to Japan.

Alexander Buchan

Alex Buchan grew up in Detroit and received his master’s degree in Industrial Design at Wayne State University.  He spent the beginning of his career as a design sculptor with General Motors Design Center.  In 1989, Alex began depicting in bronze the great racing machines of the early 1900s and has been fulfilling private commissions, judging art shows and exhibiting ever since.

Alex has won numerous awards at the top Concours in the U.S. including, Gilmore, Meadowbrook, Bay Harbor, Glenmore, and the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum shows where he has won the Spirit of the Automobile, Awards of Excellence and the Roger Teague award Best of Show to name a few.

Alex tries to capture the power and beauty of the automobile.  He also has a unique feature where he incorporates the portrait of his subjects in his bronze sculptures.  The finished pieces reflect his thoughtful study of his subject, and the energy of the creative process.  He wants his sculptures to be a monument to the men and the cars they created. The finished work speaks of his passion for the sculptures he creates.  His discipline and applied craftsmanship combined with his dedicated spirit for the automobile achieve the balance which makes the bronze come alive for those who view his sculptures of the automobile.

Bruce Wheeler

From early on-- fascinated with the ability of the car to transport one from the familiar, to new experiences, locations and relationships.  Bruce’s sculptures now serve to transport again, to prompt the viewer’s imagination to visualize possible situations and experiences involving such vehicles.

Experiences like participating in the “New York to Paris Race of 1908”, Touring Europe in an open Bentley, or even the painful “Dustbowl Exodus”, can be relived vicariously. His work experiences and education centered on the design process, from the design studios at General Motors to Forensic and Exhibit design.

Thru-out his life, always looking for that “Niche” that was his, he explored the use of many materials and mediums.  The automobile, while familiar, was elusive as a subject.  But after developing some skills with jewelry and metals, the “Epiphany” occurred.  He found it was possible to create expressive automotive studies directly in metal.  Hand forming, soldering, and welding each panel and component.

His intent is to capture and convey the visual excitement of these “Vintage Vehicles” in what he describes as a 3-dimensional sketch.

Honors such as the “Lincoln Award for Most Elegant Artwork” at the Automotive Fine Art Society exhibit at Pebble Beach are cherished, but the real Rewards are the re-actions of the viewer.

Chris Osborne

Recipient of the Classic Car Club of America 2003 Award of Excellence and the Glenmoor Gathering 2005 and 2006 Excellence in Automotive Art Award, Chris Osborne pays homage to the American automobile by way of the art of portraiture.  “There are key things in American culture that absorb my attention, the fabulous cars of decades past, the colorful people who drove them, and the true American musical genres, Jazz & Blues.  Any combination of these elements may appear in my work.  After exhaustive factual research and the use of figurative models, I like to apply an imaginative view of history, bringing to the present a candid moment in time shared with the viewer.”

Raised in New Milford, Connecticut, Osborne received a BA in Art from Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson NY and an MFA in printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  After an extended stay on Martha’s Vineyard in the 1970’s, she moved to New York City, working with legendary artist’s agent Jane Lander representing a group of illustrators with a preference toward fine art.  This pivotal move guided Chris toward figurative drawing and painting, and in the mid-1980’s she left the agent profession to pursue art on her own.  Over the decade of the 1990’s Chris supplemented her work by managing the Jazz department at Tower Records Lincoln Center, the largest retail record store in New York, which put her significantly in the midst of the Jazz world.  It was an experience that will forever enrich her painting, as she is currently working on a history of Jazz in visual form, decade-by-decade, city-by-city, with the American automobile as a natural focal point.

Chris has exhibited widely in galleries and art associations in the Northeast and New York City, along with invitational exhibits at annual Collector Car events such as the Kruse Auction in Auburn, Indiana, the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, the Hamptons Concours d’Elegance, the Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles, and the Classic Car Club of America annual gathering in Hickory Corners, Michigan.  She was the CCCA poster artist for 2005. In April & May of 2006 the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum and Kruse Museum in Indiana exhibited her work in a solo show.

Dan Mccrary

It was inevitable that Dan McCrary would become an automotive artist. He was born in 1949, in Raleigh, NC. By the mid 1950's , his lifelong passion for cars was being fueled by weekly outings to a local speedway, and on the street the everyday passing of the exuberant designs of the fifties was adding all that much more fuel to the fire.  All his childhood drawings were of cars - no planes, boats, nothing but cars!

During his teen years, Dan and some of his gear-head friends took up guitars, and this started a parallel foray into the life of a musician.  Interspersed with college years and two years in the army, this lasted until Dan was about 30, when the rigors of the road life began to wear thin. It was at this point that he took up the pursuit of automotive art in a serious way. His work began with a pretty straightforward "car portrait" approach, and over the years has evolved into the highly reflective (and sometimes rusty) sections of the automotive subject that he currently emphasizes.

The many years of this single-minded pursuit of automotive fine art have led to awards and places in quite a few prominent private and corporate collections. In addition his work has been seen in many publications, including Road & Track, Street Rodder, Auto Aficionado, and (soon) Automobile Quarterly.  He now resides in Charlotte, NC with his wife Lynn and daughter Danielle.

Dav3 Kurz

Dave Kurz works in a very unique medium, pastel on sandpaper, Dave’s working surface is 2000 grit wet and dry sandpaper dry mounted on acid free boards. Each painting begins with a rough sketch in charcoal pencil. As color is applied Dave works from top to bottom and left to right finishing the painting as he moves down and across the board. The backgrounds are completed using fat pastel sticks and traditional pastel techniques to keep them “looser” and more impressionistic. The detailed areas are completed using pastel pencils. The average time to complete a painting is 150 to 180 hours or one hour per square inch! Due to the extensive use of pastel pencils Dave’s paintings are seldom large but they are filled with detail and have often been called “jewel-like” because much of the detail can only be appreciated through close inspection. In spite of their size, reproductions of Dave’s paintings are often two to three times larger than the original without any loss of detail.

Dave’s work has received numerous awards including recognition from the International Pastel Society. His work has been featured in Road & Track, Hot Rod, Rod & Custom, Street & Custom Rodding Illustrated, Automobile Magazine, Big Twin, American Iron, Vintage Motors Sports, Goodguys Gazette, US Art, The Artists Magazine and on the covers of Mobilia Magazine, Old Cars Weekly, Sports Car Market, Apex Magazine and the Sangre De Cristo Art Center catalog.

Tom Fritz

Tom Fritz gets his highs from vehicles that are lean, look mean, and pound a rhythm on the two-lane. His vivid recollections of the hot rodding and motorcycle cultures that were prevalent in Southern California during the 60's and 70's are a part of the power that established him as a prominent artist of the genre. Colorful brushwork, and simple, yet beautifully structured compositions charged with a hint of narrative drama are hallmarks of his paintings. Tom's art is critically regarded for bringing forth a unique and sensitive perspective of a movement once cast aside, to be reexamined and recognized as a valuable element of the American transportation tableau.

Tom received his BA in painting from California State University Northridge. Twenty-five years later he decided to leave a successful career as an illustrator in the defense industry and turn his considerable talents to his fine art. As a member of the Automotive Fine Arts Society, and licensed by the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Fritz's work has been internationally published and is currently found in many private, public, and corporate collections around the world. Tom is a three-time recipient of the Peter Helck Award ("Best of Show") at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and has won numerous top awards other events. Today, Tom lives and works out of his studio near Thousand Oaks, California.

Tom Hale

I enjoy creating art and using the subject of the automobile as a means to explore compositions, patterns and color.  I do not make ‘pictures’ of cars – this is not what I’m about.

The automobile allows me to express my creativity and emotions about art.  I see not the automobile but composition, abstraction, surrealism, value and color.  In 1992, I introduced large floral and leaf images to my automobile paintings in a surreal manner.  This provided me the opportunity to add intense color and wonderful soft shapes to the surfaces of the automobile.  It also complemented the sheet metal, chrome and hard mechanical shapes of the automobile with the soft, sensuous organic qualities of flowers.

When not traveling, I paint every day.  I work alone with no assistants and all of my paintings are executed in acrylic paints most often on canvas.  My technique is tedious as I layer my paintings many times to achieve the overall quality that I desire.  My painting method is simple as I use only water, brush and paint.  I am not a fan of gimmicks, tricks or airbrush and to not employ them.

Along with my originals, I have limited-edition prints and have been commissioned to create 48 posters.  I’ve displayed at every major Concours in the country and have participated in nearly 400 art and automobile shows over the past 30 years.  I am asked to jury and judge art shows and to give talks on my art.  My home gallery is open by appointment and my web site displays my prints and posters
